Description of the xlsx and docx format

Dear hashcode, help out!

I can't find a description of the above zip-xml formats. I understand that they have become open and you can create the appropriate documents without using the ms office api, which will increase the speed of data export at times.

Search engines brazenly consider me a novice and offer to teach me how to open these files. Well, you know, you understand that I myself know a dozen options for opening these files :-)

In advance thank you for your feedback.

PS: I will not disdain some developments on working with these files in the source code.

The format is called Office Open XML. It is standardized ECMA under the name Standard ECMA-376. The format is really complex, but it is described in great detail. The main descriptive document of the standard "Office Open XML File Formats — Fundamentals and Markup Language Reference" alone takes up five thousand pages. Plus about two thousand pages of additional materials.

But if the enthusiasm is not lost-go ahead, take the documentation on the ECMA website.

In fact, you don't need to know the entire specification to create an xls or doc (rtf) document. You only need to know how to describe the file title, the elements that you need (a table, for example, and a couple of paragraphs) and service information to finish the file.

  1. When I had to generate some acts from the database (several hundred in one click) I started working with the RTF format (http://rus-notes.blogspot.ru/2012/11/rtf-rich-text-format.html

  2. When I almost had to do the same thing with spreadsheets (xls) I used the xml markup of the document, but saved it under the xls extension. The only disadvantage of opening the file is that you need to confirm it. If you need an example of such a file, send me an email and I'll send you palem[....]list[.....]ru.
