Do I need additional hardware for the AOA method to work?

Situation: We want to find the location of users who use the app .The territory where the positioning should be performed is not known to us and we do not have a pre-prepared infrastructure and we can only use the existing infrastructure that will be at hand that is, WI-FI access points (for example, which are currently available to the user) . In this case, is it possible to apply the AOA positioning method and can the AOA method work with the usual Wi-Fi access points or do you need additional equipment ?

I've been experimenting with this. The signal level decreases with distance from the point according to the logarithmic law for the signal level and linearly for the sector.

The sensitivity limit of conventional access points is about -80 dB, which corresponds to 120 meters, the accuracy of 1dB at this distance is about ±25 meters.

At small distances, the accuracy is about half a meter, but the signal level is very much walking ±5 dB maximum, but usually less, which makes it possible to position with an accuracy of up to a meter if there are 3-4 Wi-Fi access points within a radius of 10 meters.

SISO and mimo access points are not suitable for the AOA method. Because the radio module does not transmit data about the client's sector. Even with the stack, because the soft clock floats very much, and the data from the core does not arrive in real time.

Need a mumimo access point. And there is a problem with the removal of data. There are almost no ready-made tools.
