gcc: error: unrecognized command line option '- V'

Hello, I am having difficulty compiling the program sudo sudo-1.8.31p1. When I try to execute the command ./ configure I see the following message in the configuration lo:

configure:3494: gcc -V >&5
gcc: error: unrecognized command line
option '-V' gcc: fatal error: no input files compilation terminated.

How do I fix this error. We ".config.log" that's it. this error does not prevent the program from being compiled and executed, but I would like to know if I am doing something wrong, given that I am starting to compile. Thank you:
