OpenGL scene rendering, ray tracing

At the university now there is a discipline "Computer graphics". The teacher set 2 tasks:

1) Draw a scene with 3D objects (polygons)

2) Draw the scene using the ray tracing algorithm.

Are there any resources that can fully provide enough knowledge to complete these tasks? (Preferably for PyOpenGL, but not necessarily)
