According to the HTML semantics, can main be nested in section or article?

Yes, you can put anything in main except header and footer.

The main tag is for the main content. In main, you can not (strongly discouraged) insert the tags header and footer.

Tag section - a structural tag-by the type div, if it is more clear. They are separated by "large" blocks and sections.

The article tag is the content container tag. It is assumed that the content of the article will be placed inside - text, images, video\audio, but no one forbids it add div.
